In 1920 J. F. Hoover, age 43, a coal yard laborer, lived at 245 Third Avenue, along with his wife Hattie, 32; Ethel Lee, 6; Mary E, 4; and David F., 4 months. As Mother remembered, Ethel Lee was indeed about a year old in 1915. David Hoover died in June 1982, Ethel Lee Hoover died on September 16, 2001, and Mary Elizabeth "Bootsie" Hoover died on February 16, 2002. Ethel Lee and Mary Elizabeth are buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Gentrys and the Hoovers were close neighbors on Fifth Avenue, South, in the 1940's. Hattie Hoover was angered when Dorothy Gentry Ewing and her husband Baxter introduced one of her daughters to a divorced man. She refused to speak to any member of the Gentry family for the rest of her life and discouraged her daughters from doing so. Nevertheless, Ethel Lee remained in touch with Mother throughout her life; and after their mother's death, both sisters did so. Ethel Lee worked for Third National Bank in Nashville for many years while Bootsie was an officer at Williamson County Bank. Source: |
