In 1920 Agnes Bennett, 37, was living at 126 Third Avenue with her mother, Laura, 66. They are also shown in 1910 on what was then known as Main Cross Street, near Bridge Street; but the entry is mostly illegible. In the 1960's, after my family returned to Franklin, we lived next door to Miss Agnes' house. It was mostly abandoned: Miss Agnes was in a nursing home, and her companion, Miss Sarah Alexander, was not at the house much. Occasionally we would see Miss Sarah take Miss Agnes for a ride. I believe that Miss Agnes was noted for having driven her car into a building before she was forced to give up driving herself. One of my friends, who also lived on Third Avenue, North, was convinced that the Bennett house was haunted. Sources: |
