Alfred Maxwell Reding was born on January 12, 1855, in Robertson County, Tennessee, and died on October 12, 1929, in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas. He married Margaret Sedonia Osaler Reed [1857-1926] in 1877.

Their grandson Roy Hoytt Laird was born in 1909 and died in 1991.
